We have created programs that serve our communities and are training opportunities for our students. In addition to our programs, AWOM networks with other local organizations to provide opportunities to serve to our students.
Filling the Food Pantries & Produce Stand
Students will plant and tend a garden on the AWOM farm. The food produced will be donated to local food pantries and sold at the produce stand.
Serving through the Seasons
Students will till gardens in the spring, cut grass in the summer, rake leaves in the fall, and shovel snow in the winter. Students will donate their time to senior citizens and those who are physically unable to do such activities.
Gone Astray
Gone Astray will match youth (especially those who are juv
enile offenders) withdogs being held by local humane organizations. The youth will assist in the care of the animals and work with the animals to prepare them for their new homes or to be assistance dogs. Offenders training dogs has been very successful treatment in many prisons. Gone Astray will teach animal care skills which could lead to careers in the animal care industry, provide a necessary service to the community, and bring much needed assistance to humane organizations.
The Therapeutic Riding Facility will be a North American Riding for the Handicap Association approved facility that will provide therapy for the mentally and physically challenged. Youth Empowerment Program students will assist in the care of the animals and work with clients in the program. This program will benefit an underserved population in our community and provide a training opportunity for youth interested in working with the disabled as a career.
